Your Weekly Recap of ARTIVISM events!
Kai Malette

June, Week Three
Whenever we create with others, we must take time to find what works, and how much enjoyment we can get out of it. Of course, when you're with ARTIVISM, that enjoyment is always cranked up to the maximum.
While this week was not as action packed as some others, it's still always fun to look back on what we've done together. Besides, rest is good for the soul! Always remember to take some for yourself when you've been busy.
As always, you can catch up on all ARTIVISM blogs by clicking below. Announcements will be posted at the bottom of the page, and without further ado, here's your recap of Week 3 of June!
Monday, June 16
We return to Aurora Market for our Melodic Monday series, where we followed the famous phrase "third time's the charm" (or whichever number you choose to make its equivalent). Karaoke made its way onto the schedule again, and we were joined by some members of the community, people who live nearby and stumbled upon our gathering. While our regular visitors performed as they always do, we used the subtle art of persuasive speech to convince our guests to hop on the mic, despite them saying that singing wasn't their forte. It is as we always say: so long as you are willing to share with us, your skill level is irrelevant. Come have a good time!

Soon after, we managed to shift to a Disney centered night, further proving that while many travel for summer, we're just trying things here at home, preparing to give the community as many unique nights as possible. Between hearing "Part of Your World" rendered beautifully, to me tapping into the essence of villainy for "Friends on the Other Side," we're really just appreciating music and having fun with it.
Now, I did say we started with Karaoke. Emphasis on 'started.' Near the night's end, one of our beloved founders, Jus Josh starting breaking it down with style. All of a sudden, we found ourselves in a 10-minute dance party. Like I said: just trying things. Isn't that what creation is all about? Perhaps we'll host another proper dance party for Melodic Mondays.
Tuesday, June 17
Sankofa Video Books and Cafe continues to be a wonderful host for our Jam Sessions, and this past Tuesday was no exception.

I have been a continued guest of the ARTIVISM jams, and each time one goes as smoothly as the one from this day, I can't help but smile. We found groove after groove, beginning with a bluesy cover from the 'Sinners' soundtrack to a heartfelt performance of a Kendrick Lamar classic; the group flowed so naturally to the point where you would think we had planned and practiced those sets. Those who have been blessed with beautiful voices sang along with us, and the good vibes did not stop until we ran out of our allotted time.

It's worth mentioning that every time a new face comes into the jam, and participates without any hesitation, that familiar sense of community returns. Art will always be one of the greatest ways to bring people together, and ARTIVISM proves it time and time again. Art will provide life and love so long as we're allowed to make it, so please, don't kill our vibe. Come to the next jam and join it!
(I love a good pun and callback combo.)
